Last weeks reading:
So don't laugh.... I know you think I am crazy that I do professional reading during the summer, but I find if I intermix it with my "fun" reading it is easier for me.  Last week I read "Pathways to Common Core" by Lucy Caulkins.  We are just starting to adopt CCSS and this coming year I will be part of the leadership team to help implement them.  I found this book to be quite helpful in dissecting the meanings behind the ELA's.Of course it is their perspective but still... helped break them down for me.  Here is the link from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_8?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pathways+to+the+common+core&sprefix=pathways%2Caps%2C209
I couldn't get the picture to copy with the MAC.

  1. Pam: I love to read and am part of a great local book club. While I was in Colorado last week, I read 4 books (It was really rainy while we were there! LOL!): Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Dewey and Battle Anthem of the Tiger Mother. All were interesting reads and I'd happily read them again.

  3. Pam, I think reading professional texts is a good idea when you have extra time, and summertime is the perfect time. Reading about CCSS and ELA's give you a head start for the upcoming school year.

  4. Pam,
My reading has been pretty "dry" this summer so far. All I am currently reading is coaching techniques and strategy books that my head coach wants us to read. Lots of good information, but really boring. Its always good to improve yourself though, so I think what you are doing is great.

    1. Chad,
My son is also a coach (soccer) and he is always asking for coaching/training books. I think whatever our passion is we are willing to read about it no matter how dry.

  5. Pam I am definitely checking this book out. My school is implementing CCSS this year and this book could be helpful. Thanks for sharing!

  6. WOW...impressive. I have been teaching Math & Science for the last 4 years and next year we get to teach all of the content areas again, I teach 3rd grade, and I am excited and nervous, due to the implementation of CCSS. This will be our second year using the CCSS and I need a good resource to scaffold my learning. Thank you I will place my order tonight :)
